Finally, I’m about finished with all of my claims work. I only have 2 left, one of which I’ll finish up tomorrow. This includes the work I brought back from Seattle and the claims I have received since I’ve been home.
The Seattle storm was different in that when I left I brought about 20 claims home. Bringing work home is difficult because you lose work time when traveling so by the time you get home people are upset that their claim isn’t finished. With this storm I also had to work claims that were re-opened after I arrived home.
When we work a storm claim we prepare estimates based on damage that we find at that time. Later after a contractor gets involved the claim may actually be larger than first calculated. In these cases the local adjusters usually take over but in this case I had to take care of the claim. Not many re-opened but it did occur.
When I’m home I work for 2 independent claims adjusting firms, both of which are out of the area so I just handle the claims received for this area. There are not that many claims, maybe 3 to 4 a week, but it keeps us going until I can get out on storm again.
I’ve been pulling weeds in the landscaping for an hour or so every day over the past few days. It was needed therapy. Now I need to start cleaning out the landscaping in earnest. I also need to start learning about my big camera. I want to know settings without having to think about it when I travel to China. It is fun to think that I can do something besides work for a little while.
If you have time to take the Henley's class, it's worth it.
