New Work Among Other Things

Wow, if there is no rest for the wicked then I must be so really wicked. I’ve done nothing more for Alaska and the clock is ticking down. Instead I’ve taken on a brand new farmers market here in Bakersfield. Tomorrow is our 1st day at that market and only the 2nd week for the market. A new employee will help with that but I had to drive to my son’s to pick up our almond butter and blistered almonds today.

In addition, I’ve promised our daughter-in-law that I’d have her silk bassinet skirting ready for the baby shower on Saturday. I’ve only just started to sew it up. I’ll add photos after I finish it.

Also I’m taking a photo class to try and learn more about my camera and had a class last night with a new assignment.

Tomorrow one employee will come and get everything ready for the farmers market while I frantically sew. Then the new employee will come and help pack up and off we will go. I’ll try to add all of our new exciting info tomorrow night.

6 Weeks to Alaska

Alaska is only 6 weeks away; I thought that we had so much time. Last night we sat at the table with maps spread out and the Milepost opened to the routes we plan to take.

Years ago we were in Alaska and bought a book for our granddaughter about an Iditarod dog named Kiana who ran the race. As we looked at the maps we saw names of cities that we read in the book, how exciting to think that we will make a long trip where we can see some of the places we read about.

We have mostly planned our route and places to visit so now it is a matter of buying the tickets we need and planning our food and getting everything ready.

We went out to the RV and started checking out what we will need before embarking on that long trip; need new batteries and tires. We also found that Dale’s passport is gone, I think that I had it out to renew but it is totally lost in this house. Now I’ll need to run in, get a new birth certificate for him then we will go in for a new passport.

As a Business Owner

I now own 5 businesses; 2 are still getting off the ground, 1 is going and 2 are on back burner for now. I am beginning to understand just how time consuming trying to run these businesses is, until last week I was just busy trying to keep up.

The adjusting/estimating business is going strong. This week I have 2 claims to adjust, one yesterday and one tomorrow morning, and today did a total loss fire walkthrough. I must write the estimate to rebuild this fire damage. The almond business is slowing growing with another case of cookies ordered to be baked tomorrow after inspecting the wind loss to a roof.

As for the sewing and design, my prototype design is ready to give to the business requesting it. We will meet with the business owner next week and see what she thinks. I’ll post the actual product once we know what will happen with it.

So now I’ve had to hire 2 people part time to help me out, one as a personal assistant and the other as a helper for the businesses. Good thing I have the estimates to work which pay great money so that I can pay people to work for the 2 start up businesses. Esh.
