This week is really tight for money. Not the end of the world, but like everyone, we had just too many things happen recently.
I was looking in a kitchen drawer for something and found 2 receipts for cash refunds from recyclables we’d turned in a while back. They totaled over $20. Wow, that would give us just a little extra for the week. I know it isn’t much but we had enough food and fuel already, so it was just a “just in case”.
Now we recycle our glass and plastic; we take it to a recycling post. The post issues a receipt that we must take to a nearby store where we exchange it for cash. In this case we did not take the receipt in right away.
We had some errands to run before going to the gym so we added obtaining our cash to the list. But 1st I had to go to the bank and put a little in our account. We got in the drive thru lane but found we didn’t have a pen so I could write a check from one bank into this one. I left my husband to drive thru the drive thru and I ran into the bank to write the check.
After writing the check I went back out and found my husband still in line at the drive thru so hopped into the truck. We deposited our check and as we were driving away I realized that I did not have the receipts for our cash refund. I searched the truck then ran into the bank, no receipts. I walked thru the drive thru lane but couldn’t see under the cars in line; but no receipts where I could see. We drove back home to look but no receipts.
Back to the bank. This time I went thru the line inside and there someone had turned in the receipts. The teller handed us an envelope with the receipts inside. We couldn’t believe our luck!!!
We went across the parking lot to exchange our receipts for cash. We got into the store; it is a very small store. We handed over the receipts and told the cashier that we had many adventures just getting there. The cashier looked at our receipts and then looked at us. “There is a small problem here” he said, “these receipts expired 2 months ago”. He showed us the small print that we’d neglected to read. OOPS!!!
