Well, the longer hike didn’t happen. People slept late, too late, then Justin had to be at the backpack office by 1pm to get permits for the overnight backpack trip. We thought we’d play at the river while we got the permits, which ended up taking him much of the afternoon. We’d planned to come right back for lunch then hike.
The river we went to was at the End of the Road again. This time we parked in the lot nearby, taking a short path to the beach. The path went by another meadow. We put our chairs at different spot of the beach, right off of the path. Kids found a piece of wood they called Ducky and Ducky became a live friend.
I had to go back to the parking area and as I was walking saw a mother bear and her cub in the meadow. I ran back and got kids so they could see the bears.
Later the bears were still in the meadow so I was able to grab my camera and shoot some photos. I was afraid of getting too close, especially when mama bear stood up and looked at me. I backed away carefully. I’m hoping that I got some good photos to add to the bear photos that I took in Denali.
