Back To Working

I know I haven’t blogged for a very long time. It has been nonstop work for 3 weeks, 12 hour days, 7 days a week.

So we got a call that a refinery had a fire and the company I work for handles all of their claims. They asked if I could work this storm especially since it not far from where we live. Of course I said yes. Unfortunately, because it was already after 10a.m. we had less than 10 hours to depart as I had a meeting at 8 am the following morning. I, of course couldn’t reach Dale so had to just pack, throwing things together. But we made it to the Sacramento area by 3am, plenty of time.

This storm is quite different for me. We are working inside an office and handling everything by phone. We have a team of about 20, down from maybe 30 last week to handle over 13,000 claims. I myself have nearly 700 but have closed about 300 already.

I was hoping that this would be something that would last for months but everything seems to change sometimes minute by minute. But I think the overview is that we will scale back quickly in the next 2 weeks, maybe a couple of people will stay and the rest will go off to then next storm or home.

I’d really like to stay; we are about 5-6 hour drive from home but only a 1 hour flight. 1-1/2 hour drive from Clayton’s if I can start having a day off and it is just good steady work. But there are several guys who want to stay are starting to put their nose up the supervisor’s butt. Makes one sick but that is office politics. So I just do my work and what our supervisor decides so be it. If I can work 2 more weeks great, then another 2 weeks is even better and so on.
