Baking for the Farmer's Market ; part 2

The trip to Santa Barbara was so tiring. Dale worked Friday night so we were not able to leave until Saturday afternoon. After a quick dinner and we left for the kitchen but were distracted by the firework show, fortunately it only lasted 20 minutes.

We went on to the kitchen where I baked 2 huge batches of cookies and helped Nate and Bekki get their products made for Sunday’s farmer’s markets. We finished at 3a.m.

Because I had no time to get the packaging ready we put cookies into the larger containers for butter and meal and Bekki quickly made up labels.

The cookies were not yet authorized for the Santa Clarita market so Nate took them to the Goleta market. He reported that he sold about 7 containers of cookies, not a lot but it is a start. We have had people asking for them in the Santa Clarita.

After the market I went over to another vendor who is actually from Bakersfield. He had spoken to me about being in a new farmer’s market in Bakersfield after I’d told him about our products. He told me that he’d mentioned my cookies to Kaiser Permanente and they are very interested as they have a group of celiac people. I’m not sure of their interest: that is if they would like to purchase cookies or just have the info.

In the meantime Nate was called in for a meeting on the Santa Barbara markets where he was informed that the vendor who sold baked goods was no longer going to do that. Nate’s almond business will now be a cornerstone of the market and they will put out ads in the local newspaper about the baked goods (my cookies). This is really moving fast.
